One thing to realize about ultralight fly rods and their lines is that the stepdown increment gets smaller as the line weights get lighter. So the effective difference down to a 0-weight isn't much from a 1-weight. Actually, the increment from a 2-weight to a 0-weight is about the same as from a 3-weight to a 2-weight.

A good caster should be able to cast 50' to 60' sitting in a float tube with a 9' 5 or 6 weight. But the reality, as Mojo mentioned, is that one rarely needs to make that cast over 40'. An update to my original post and some more information. I fished the Dynamix 6 weight this weekend with a 250 grain sink tip line and it was a blast. We were hitting the banks with casts of 30-60 feet from a boat and it performed like a champ. You couldn't force the rod but with a nice relaxed stroke it easily got the job done.Location. RI.
