2010 Dodge Ram 2500. Asked by Visitor in Westminster, SC on October 19, 2018. Stopped at drive thru and cut off truck to hear (diesel ) when restarted motor and put into drive , showed transmission in 4th gear. cut engine off , waited a few minutes and restarted went back to drive all back to normal but engine light remains on.When I backed out of my driveway, I put it in drive and was stuck in 4th gear. It had a "4" next to the "D" on the dash and it wouldn't let me manually switch out of 4th. I felt the transmission slip and now it is stuck in fourth gear. I have come to a stop And the truck will downshift from 4th to 1st gear. Then when I go again it will jump from 1st to 4th gear. The cause: about 100K miles prior, 5th gear had come off. The repair performed involved a thrust washer. The thrust washer came off, went through the gear case and was caught on the magnet on the bottom of the tranny case. When it went through the case, it chiped some teeth and misalighed 5th and the shift fork.

P0882 and truck stuck in 4th means you are not getting 12V power from the Trans Relay (in the Totally Integrated Power Module [TIPM]) to the trans. The PCM sends a signal (at startup) to tell the Trans Relay to close, which then feeds 12V power to the trans. Might be best to have your dealer diagnose.

Downshifting from 6th to 4th at 65 (or even 75+) mph shouldn't cause the tires to lock up.
