A Niche case, but for all the discourse I see on the jagex launcher, and jagex accounts, I think this is one valid reason why people could be hesitant to upgrade as well. Imagine not having runelite because jagex chose to allow only one 3rd party client. There needs to be equal opportunity for community made content (that doesn't break the rules, and is ideally open source and FREE) to not get you banned. However I understand jagex adding runelite only (as of now) to the homepage, and the launcher is the right move.

If so, I'm sure Jagex would gladly compensate you for your hard work. Also, it's entirely possible that some players are actually botting, and trying to save their account from perma-ban. It's also possible that some players are using mouse keys, which AFAIK have been approved by Jagex, but come with a warning that they might be flagged as a bot.
