There is a small possibility that the loot from the lost sector itself is an exotic (fact), not considering the solo thing, meaning that even if you do it with other people you can still get an exotic. I noticed that if I blow through the boss fight, the platinum text flashes real quick. But if I take my time, and let all the enemies spawn in, the text actually stays up and thats when I normally get an exotic.
