Really the only hedge if you can call it that, is to have a small position and a large reserve, this way if Uvxy goes 10x like during Covid, you can hold on. Buying long calls is way too expensive. If anything you can buy very long short puts on spy. Also it is more profitable to sell Uvxy calls if you want to go short, but be careful.The problem is it’s near impossible to short these on any brokerage without huge short interest and available shares and big margin requirements and fees. So since UVXY started on 10/4/11, I did a SPY spreadsheet where one just put in 100% of its account balance on 10/4/11 and let it ride in SPY. As of 5/7/21 a $100 account balance would have risen to $453.41. That is a roughly 17.06% IRR. The maximum drawdown was 33.72%. That sounds killer.
