As far as I know, all the piston uppers, e.g. my Sig 516, require a standard recoil assembly in the lower, just like a DI upper. I wouldn't think you could run anything but an MCX upper on that lower.
It looks like I can get MCX CARRIER GROUP for $449, the Upper Receiver for $499, and Charging handle for $99. Whenever the 6.75" barrel comes back in stock would add another $600. If I had to do it again, I'd just purchase a complete Virtus upper and then get the barrels that I wanted as the 5.5" Rattler barrel isn't much smaller than the 6.75" Virtus barrel. So, I'm no longer on the "waitlist" for the MCX. As of yesterday, September 7, 2021, I was able to pick up the 11.5" MCX Virtus (WPMCX-11B-TAP).
