Problems with our 8440? Last year had hydraulic issues and found sump screens plugged with pcs of clutch disc? Was told just PTO clutch? Cleaned those and Chiseled ground last fall with no problems. Working it this spring now, Dad was running it and said sometimes it felt like it did not want to shift between C1-C2?We had this problem with our 3050 years ago, put new batteries on it twice new alternater and a starter motor and it was still the same. Spoke to an old fitter at local Deere dealers he said resweat all the soldered joints on the back of the dash panels and it will be fine ! Both are rated the same hp but the difference is the engines. One has the 466 the other has the 531. He has pulled the same plow with both of them. The 8450 has to be wrapped up all the way and you can't take off with the plow in the ground. The 7520 it just the opposite. We had a 8440 and it did what we asked it to.

I think the early 619 engines had a block cracking problem, especially in this 4x4 tractor where the engine block is used as the frame. I heard that the cracking was between cylinders. Back in the early 80's John Deere changed them out to the 50 series for I think, $5000 and when they did every thing was new, turbo, starter, injection pump ect.
