Honestly, mage isn't great in f7 (especially as cata 30) w/o hyperion. I played bers until about cata 32 then switched to mage when I could afford a hyperion. Tank-Healer: Basically a pure Healer because you go for max ehp and in turn max healing (% of health healing). Basically unkillable. Mage-Healer: Just gets some tanky gear, slap necrotic on it and use a magic weapon. This gives you the ability to clear rooms effectively and you are way more tanky than a pure mage.

Using a whale instead of a damage pet or sheep can cost you especially in f7 where the mobs are tougher and the dungeon is larger. yes if you can't afford Hyperion as mage ur dead weight. switch to archer w/o Hyperion for less dead weight and some more alive weight but still pretty dead. This is horrible to normalize, Hyperion is literally 600m and that is hard to get for most people. Also Midas staff can still be very effective if used properly.
