Checked resistance from terminals reading showed 2.5 Ohms.

Vacuum petcocks suck. To get fuel into the oil gas has to get past the petcock. The petcock can leak 2 ways: not properly shutting off or having a diaphram issue and leaking fuel into the manifold thru the vacuum hose. "Best" fix is an earlier non-vacuum off-on-reserve petcock. He had changed all fluids so I couldn't tell how bad and I guess he never started it again. Brownihs/tannish soot/dirt/crap all over lower end of bike and inside pipes.

Without the pressure of the gas cap against the inside of the tank, it just might slide open. Try it and let up know. Connect the other end of the jumper wire to the black lead of the OHM meter. Next touch the red lead of the OHM meter to the center contact of the rear turn signal bulb socket.
