I am aware of the sub-compact XD and for the same reason I would compare that to the Glock 26 or 27, not the 19. Again, the Glock would have same barrel length, but be smaller and lighter.

The widespread use of Glock's in militaries and LE along with the simplicity of the design and ease to repair and replace parts put Glock well ahead of other competitors.I shot the XD terrifically, especially as a newbie. I noted the features on the XD that were lacking on the Glock (ambi mag release, grip safety, chamber loaded indicator, striker-cocked indicator). And I went w/ the XD. I couldn't see paying more and getting less. There is nothing wrong with a grip safety just ask the 1911 folks. I prefer the Glock 19 over the XD9 but again both are good weapons.
