Ice packs on the lower calf/achillies area immediately after a run. Regular calf/soleus stretching, heel drops and heel raises. Wearing higher drop shoes for recovery runs. Socks and sneakers are the two most important pieces of gear and I don't normally advocate switching them up 2 weeks before a race. That being said, I use 2 different pairs of wool socks. Either Darn Tough's coolmax or Smartwool's crew running socks. Never have blisters or any hot spots.
